Catherine found herself consumed with helping young girls express their inner beauty to their outside canvas and she has not stopped. After serving as a traveling stylist, Catherine began her professional career as a licensed cosmetologist in 2012. Since then, she furthered her craft and is now a licensed Master Educator of Cosmetology. Catherine’s outside of the box approach to teaching encourages students to identify their specialties. By celebrating their artistic differences, she prepares them for a long lasting career. Through Catherine Ashly Beauty, Catherine continues to help her clients see themselves in a light that promotes self-love; one of many reasons that named her business one of Philadelphia’s top salons. In 2015 Philadelphia Magazine nominated her as a top hair stylist for textured hair.
As life would have it, challenges forced Catherine to find the very strength she taught others to find in themselves. After ending an abusive relationship, she stopped at nothing to regain her confidence. This new profound self-love landed her in countless pageants and modeling campaigns. In true Catherine Ashly form, she knocked down boundaries and surpassed all expectations. While modeling she made many connections and offered her gifts to her modeling counter parts. These business opputuntities bridged the gap between the two things that Catherine loved so much! No longer did she need to pick between modeling or a beauty career, she suddenly had both in the palm of her hands. With every client she services, no matter the size, shape age or gender, Catherine strives to make each person feel special. Her mantra empowers all to appreciate the skin that they are in, flaws and all.
A West Philadelphia native, Catherine Ashly’s brand affects the tristate area with the sky as the limit. Her infectious smile continues to inspire all whom she encounters. While Catherine continues to break boundaries in all things beauty, her greatest accomplishments include sharing a life of love with James Burke, Jr. and her two sons, William & James, III. "Indeed, one of my favorite quotes that summarize the bond I share with Catherine Ashly. May 2015, was the year I prepared to embark on a new journey of graduating from my Masters degree program. This accomplishment held a higher value because I buried my husband to be, sister, cousin, and father all within a two year span. For me, being able to persevere and triumph through great obstacle.... signifies my ability to remain resilient and focused on my life-long goals! Everything was together for my big day: beautiful white dress, perfect shoes, cap/gown, scheduled makeup appointment, and scheduled hair appointment; so, I thought! I ordered hair from a former stylist 2-3 weeks prior to my graduation date. And, although, I was informed I needed about 3 days for order and delivery, I wanted to remain proactive and order in advance. Two days before my graduation day, I was told that my hair had not arrived. I would have been more understanding and patient if there had been some regard or consideration of my feelings surrounding a monumental moment I held close. However, I felt dismissed and ignored. I was told to “call her tomorrow” and “see what happens.” I did not want to continue business with a person who could not validate my feelings or find fault with her form of professionalism. I decided to move on and search for results.... FAST! After I dried my tears of anxiety and frustration, I purchased new hair. Then, called my sister who called one of her close friends who called his cousin, “Katie” whom he described as “cool... does great hair... and does not take referrals... so be thankful to be lucky!” And, YES I was! I walked into Katie’s home and found her upstairs rocking her baby to sleep and welcoming me inside. She made me laugh, said “I got you” and “it’s gonna be okay”. And, yes it truly was... just that... “okay”. I felt so relieved, valued, and appreciated. I never met anyone so dedicated to empowering women, educating clients, improving healthy hair care, and breaking barriers designed to define societal standards of beauty! Aside from her transforming my hair... we are constantly developing stronger bonds of friendship! We have shared hugs, cries, secrets, praises, and arguments. She keeps me in line and holds me accountable! She continues to strengthen my hair and exhibit why I choose her over hundreds of stylist within the city of Philadelphia. There is no other person I trust with my hair, I ask for advice, and I aspire for guidance beside this Hair-Mogul! Katie, I will follow you to the moon and back!
